CFE to tender largest transmission project

MEXICO CITY, February 13, 2018 – Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) on Monday published auction rules for the high-voltage, direct-current Isthmus-Central transmission line.

The 500-kV line, which represents the largest-ever transmission project in the country, will run 1,200 kilometres through Mexico City, Mexico state, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla and Veracruz. Expected to cost USD 1.7 billion, the project is scheduled to come on line in 2021.

The CFE is seeking partners under a public-private partnership model in which the selected bidder will receive a 25-year build, own and operate contract.

The announcement follows another transmission project launched by the Secretariat of Energy at the end of January to connect the state of Baja California to the national power network through a USD 1.1-billion network.
