Iraq calls for downstream investment

BAGHDAD, May 18, 2017 – Iraq called upon international companies to pour money into its downstream sector on Thursday, opening up two new refinery projects for investment.

In a statement on its website, the Ministry of Oil said it was looking to construct two 70,000-bpd greenfield refineries, in the Al Qadisiyyah Governorate and in Anbar.

Data portfolios will be available through June 15, with the closing day for companies to submit proposals set at July 31.

A former hotbed for Islamic State activity, Anbar province has seen a great number of oil- and gas-related infrastructure and development projects shelved or abandoned, chief among those the Akkas gasfield endeavour. Violence in the area also necessitated the rerouting of the planned Iraq-Jordan pipeline project.
